1. I’ve had this book on my shelf for months, but yesterday finally got the spur I needed to open it…. which was listening to the podcast of Sherry Turkle talking at the London School of Economics back in June.

Ties in so well with the Tech 101 course I’m helping to teach to middle schoolers.

Quotes I scribbled down (as I multi-tasked by doing library database work while listening to the podcast):

    “I share therefore I am.”

    “Loneliness is failed solitude.”

Turkle says, don’t talk about “addiction”…. talk about a digital diet that makes technology a more satisfying partner in our lives.  This chimes so much with the real-life nutrition issues (re animal products (The China Study) and sugar (as a toxin)) that I have come to appreciate in terms of my physical body.

She talks about establishing sacred spaces, e.g., the kitchen and meals with other people, where technology is not allowed to intrude.

Makes me look look at what my sacred spaces are….
